“Tacos are cultural expression” Chef Enrique Olvera

The city of Los Angeles is full of many wonders, as a place where diversity breeds creativity and the concept of “cool” is ever-evolving. Tradition is good, change is good, and when they collide it gets even better! LA Weekly’s Tacolandia Festival is a special environment where people gather to appreciate the new, the old, the fresh, the bold and all things FLAVOR. The festival’s more than 100 vendors were curated by Los Angeles Magazine writer, columnist behind the weekly Essential T, current Nominee for a James Beard Award in journalism, and the world’s first Tacorazzo – Bill Esparza. His coverage of both street food and Latin American cuisine has allowed Angelinos a deeper perspective into the complex world behind the food we all know and love, and specific insight into who’s forever, who’s next and where to get it!

The fourth annual Tacolandia brought out vendors from London to Mexico and many places in between to make attendee’s taco dreams come true! And boy, it was definitely an event not to be missed! I can’t discuss them all, but I will highlight some of the Winners and my personal favorites.

Winner Best Traditional Taco: Burritos La Palma

Winner Best New School Taco: Guerilla Taco

Winner Vendy Cup/ Best Street Taco: Marisco Jalisco

Winner People’s Choice Award: Puesto

Lifetime Acheivement Award: La Guerrerense

– PERSONAL STANDOUTS –

Carnitas El Momo:

This Boyle Heights staple food truck is worth the hype – they serve traditional carnitas tacos done right! Always juicy and delicious!

Breddos:

Black Blood Pudding Tostada with steak tartar , pico de gallo, buckwheat, and micro sprouts! All the way from London in the UK, Breddos came with an original take on a traditional tostada and it was a flavor explosion!

Amor Y Tacos:

Hatch Chili Pork Stew Taco with Crispy Chicharron and Pickled Habanero Onion! There were many chicharron options at the festival but for me this one takes the cake.

AND REMEMBER, Tacolandia does not end here! Tacos will live forever – and many of these vendors are available in our city – EVERYDAY. Take advantage people, try something new! Supporting these businesses keeps the wonder in Los Angeles, and I would like to take advantage of every opportunity to share it together as a community. Thank you Tacolandia – until next year!

The Coronado Real Estate Group is proud to serve and live in such an inspiring community! Keep being unique and remember #LADontPlay when it comes to delicious cusine.
